The powerhouse songwriter and producer ONR returns with a banger of a song in “Must Stop” featuring Sarah Barthel of Phantogram. Scottish artist ONR otherwise known as Robert Shields is a force to be reckoned with and it’s pretty evident with this new release. Shields is a self taught producer and multi instrumentalist who prides his music to be authentic and true to himself. He began writing and performing his own songs at 12 or 13 years old. He’s always had a passion for music. He pens songwriting as his way to escape. Shields wanted to perfect his craft of songwriting. He has a strong determination towards his craft and it’s evident in his music.
ONR is just coming off of having released a few singles over the year including “Kill TV” featuring Nile Rodgers and Bastille drummer Chris Wood, “Human”, and “Sober” with Carina Jade. Now coming off of his recent release in “Must Stop” with Sarah Barthel from Phantogram, there is clearly no stopping him. “Must Stop” is a brilliant track with a message that resonates with a lot of people. It’s an upbeat track but the lyrics contrast that. “I must stop falling in love, stop falling in love with everyone who f*cks me up”
‘Must Stop’ is a song about being repeatedly hurt,” Shields says. “About a lack of self-worth, a desperation to be in love and to be loved by someone, anyone — and the blows you can take when you leave yourself so open.” Sarah Barthel of Phantogram originally agreed to be on the track because she felt that the feeling the song gave so many can relate to it and its meaning. I think it was the universe telling me I have to express my feelings instead of bottling them up,” she says. “From then on ‘Must Stop’ has been my mantra.” She is an amazing addition to the song as her voice adds another layer, as if the song is a conversation in a way.
