The Vinyl : Atlanta, GA
Known as the frontman of Mayday Parade, Derek Sanders recently released his debut solo EP, “My Rock and Roll Heart,” earlier this month. In support of his recent release, Sanders performed three intimate shows with Atlanta being the second stop.
With his solo EP consisting of five stripped-back covers, Derek Sanders effectively grabs the listener with his minimalistic approach. Instead of completely changing the covers, Sanders brings a welcoming sound with just his voice and acoustic guitar. With such a warm and homey sound, promoting the EP in an intimate setting was indeed the perfect choice.
As fans walked into the venue, Sanders was seen casually socializing and greeting fans. Very nonchalant, the singer took the time for everyone to settle in. As show time approached, Derek took the stage with an acoustic guitar in hand. Performing the entirety of his EP with some additional covers, Sanders voice transcended throughout the room as everyone admired his performance.
Making it even more intimate, Derek took the time between songs to talk to the audience while he tuned his guitar. Being very personable and relatable, it was as if one was watching a family member or a close friend perform throughout the night. Sanders effectively recreated his sound and vibe from his debut solo EP.
As the three intimate shows have already come to an end, it’s best to stay on the lookout for any potential upcoming shows. Derek truly is able to mesmerize the audience, while making you feel right at home. We can only hope the singer will announce more shows in the near future.
