Whether a fan or not, it is near impossible to deny the cultural impact of the Migos in contemporary hip-hop. The multi-faceted hitmakers have played a big part in pioneering adlib culture and have also developed their own “Migos flow”. Their ability to push out hit after hit is only second to Drake. This has led each member to become a staple face in music.
When Strada Entertainment Group announced it would bring Offset to Vaughan — arguably the trio’s most interesting character due to his introspection and merged brand with superstar wife Cardi B — excitement amassed. On top of Offset being the aforementioned artist that he is, he is also the toughest Migos member to get into Canada. While it is ambiguous why, it is likely due to his recent convictions which include possession of a firearm. A couple of months prior to this event, Offset was denied entry into Canada; preventing his scheduled surprise performance at Toronto’s Veld Music Festival with Cardi B. Therefore, when Strada confirmed that Offset was cleared by the Canadian consulate to enter Canada, many fans were amazed.
The venue for the performance was very interesting as Universal EventSpace is a banquet hall rather than a conventional concert venue. This surprisingly worked out well as it was refreshing to see a venue where there was ample space all the way from the line-up to the show. This also provided a more intimate setting for the fans as the GA section was much closer to the stage than it would be in an arena. This was great and unique due to the fact that it is is very rare for any of the Migos to perform in non-arena settings.
The night began with quite a few openers, none as profound as the last one, Yung Tory. Tory is a Toronto rapper who has seen quite a bit of success this year. Most notably with his remix of Marshmello & Anne-Marie‘s “Friends” taking off. He is a great performer and does an excellent job of alternating between the high energy and more melodic songs in his catalogue. It was smart to have him on right before Offset as he effectively got the crowd warmed up.
When Offset took the stage, he upped the atmosphere of the venue to an even higher level. There were definitely doubts about him holding his own as a performer — due to the Migos rarely performing outside of a group setting. However, those doubts quickly diminished within the first few songs of his set. As he proved with his music career earlier this year, he is just as capable on his own as he is with his groupmates. Standout moments from his set include his live renditions of “Ric Flair Drip”, “Taste”, and “Clout”. Admittedly, many of the audience members were hoping for an appearance from Cardi B during the latter song due to it having a very strong feature from the songstress. However, absolutely expecting this would be unreasonable as seeing Offset on his own is already a phenomenal experience. His set was surprisingly long, giving him ample time to perform many of his own songs, as well as a few of his verses from Migos’ greatest hits. This was a class act from the artist, ensuring that the fans received what they paid for.

Ultimately, the events of this night formed a great experience. Being able to see the superstar in an unconventionally intimate setting was great and an opportunity that is very rare. Kudos to Strada once again for successfully bringing Offset to Canada.
