LIVE PHOTOS + REVIEW: Wizkid Concert // Toronto, ON

Date:

There are very few things which par the excitement of a fully enthused sold out crowd. Wizkid’s headlining show at REBEL Toronto for the Africa All Star Music Festival was a show filled with joy, excitement, and good music.

Building off ample excitement – fresh off a press conference the previous day – Wizkid had the crowd on their feet since doors opened at 7pm. There were fairly impressive opening acts to get the show started.  Notable moments include, a soulful performance by Falana, a high energy driven set from Tino Tipsy, a visually stunning set from Tome, and high octave melodies from Kelly Anthony.

At 10:30pm, the lights dimmed and visuals of the Nigerian Starboy himself started to play on REBEL’s very large stage monitors. Amidst all the pushing and excitement in the sold out General Admission Section, afrobeat fans swiftly got out their camera phones to capture the history that was about to be made. As an array of camera flashes quickly engulfed the audience, Wizkid sprung out onto the stage.

Jumping out in a neon green tracksuit by Virgil Abloh’s highly coveted streetwear label Off-White, there was no doubt that Wizkid was ready to make his mark on the Toronto stage. He made sure to deliver a performance the audience would remember – being that the last time he came to Toronto was in 2012 – Wizkid was ready to show the world why he became the international sensation he is today.

Notable moments from his set include his performance of smash hits “Soco” and “Come Closer” featuring Toronto’s very own Aubrey Drake Graham. While obviously being unrealistic to expect a surprise appearance from Drake – as he is currently in Europe on tour with Tory Lanez – there was still a slight notion of hope for the “6 God” to touch the stage. However, Wizkid was definitely able to preform in accordance to expectations and elevated the Africa All Star Music Festival to a completely new level.

Fans who missed this show can catch the next stops of Wizkid’s Canadian tour including cities such as Montreal, Ottawa, and Edmonton. Considering how rare it is for the Starboy himself to come out to Canada, this is an experience that fans should not miss!
