ONES TO WATCH: MUSIC MIDTOWN 2018

Date:

With fall around the corner, Atlanta’s most popular music festival, Music Midtown, is on the horizon. Its first year in 1997, the now 2-day festival drew nearly 130,000 people in 2016, and will most likely be just as popular this year. The lineup boasts many different types of music that appeal to a diverse range of listeners, including Kendrick Lamar, Fall Out Boy, Foster the People, Khalid, and more. Although the star-studded lineup is filled with plenty of big names in music, there are also many underrated musical gems to fill up your schedule with! Here are the ones you won’t want to miss.

ARTIST: Yuno
WHY WE LOVE THEM: A beautiful amalgamation of rock, R&B, pop, and electronic styles, Yuno’s music is extremely intriguing. Although he doesn’t have a full-length album out yet, his singles and EP are promising. You’re going to want to see him before he blows up!
LISTEN TO: “No Going Back”, “Grapefruit”,”Galapagos”

ARTIST: The Aces
WHY WE LOVE THEM: Everyone loves a good girl group! The Aces are an incredible up-and-coming indie pop band, on the rise after their U.S. tour with indie powerhouse COIN. Their debut album, When My Heart Felt Volcanic, is filled with happy and danceable tunes, sure to add some sunshine to your weekend at Music Midtown.
LISTEN TO:”Stuck”,”Last One”,”Hurricane”

ARTIST: Black Pistol Fire
WHY WE LOVE THEM: Although Shaky Knees is known as Atlanta’s rock music festival, Black Pistol Fire will give everyone at Music Midtown a good dose of rock n’ roll. Citing inspiration from Led Zeppelin and Muddy Waters among others, Black Pistol Fire is part of the ever-important rock revival and will bring a unique vibe to the stage.
LISTEN TO:”Suffocation Blues”,”Speak of the Devil”,”Hipster Shakes”

ARTIST: Maggie Rogers
WHY WE LOVE THEM: A unique and captivating combination of soulful vocals and optimistic instrumentals, Maggie Rogers provides a beautiful alternative to repetitive, surface level pop. After her song “Alaska” went viral, her follow-up singles proved that she would be more than a one-hit-wonder.
LISTEN TO:”Give A Little”,”Alaska”,”On + Off”

ARTIST: Rainbow Kitten Surprise
WHY WE LOVE THEM: Like nothing you’ve ever heard, Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s music is just as interesting as their name. Drawing from rock to rap to electronic, RKS’s eccentric melodies and “introspective lyrics” converge into an extraordinary repertoire of music that you won’t want to miss.
LISTEN TO:”Fever Pitch”,”Devil Like Me”,”Cold Love”
