Live Review: KCON 2018 LA Captivates Staples Center

There is no denying how big KCON has gotten since its first debut back in 2012. With numerous of KCON festivals being held now all over the world, KCON 2018 LA Presented by Toyota closed out another successful event drawing over 94,000 attendees. Seeing how it can be quite difficult to travel across the world to see some of the best Kpop acts, KCON saves some of the stress by bringing numerous of acts over the span of one weekend. Constantly growing and improving, fans were given the opportunity to see some of South Korea’s most well known groups such as Twice, Wanna One, and Seventeen!

Concert Day One

With four different entry points, several long lines were formed as K-pop fans eagerly waited for the doors to open. Fans were seen carrying numerous of slogan posters and light sticks as they rushed to their seats.

Starting off the first night with a bang, Momoland took on the stage to perform two of their most recent hits, “Bam,” and “Bboom Bboom.” The arena filled with excitement as the audience sang and danced along with Momoland. With an amazing performance, the girl group instantly won the hearts of many with their constant interaction and proved that they are capable of dancing their choreography at double speed!

Keeping the excitement going, In2it took on the stage to show off their talents. As fans filled the arena with fan chants, the boy group demonstrated the same energy with their impressive vocals and dancing skills. With several acts to follow, both In2it and Momoland revealed that this was indeed a night to remember.

Not only was the night filled amazing performances, but several surprises were present as well. K-pop idols MC’ed throughout the night, with some even appearing within the crowd! K-pop singer Chung Ha made a surprise performance, causing the crowd to go berserk. Dynamic Duo and Crush joined forces and presented a special stage leaving the audience wanting more. The biggest surprise, was when Momo, Tzuyu, and Jihyo from Twice performed a fan-favorite cover of Beyonce’s End of Time.

With several surprises, the action packed night kept on going. Davichi took on the stage and captivated the audience with their amazing vocals. As the duo showcased their hits, the raw emotion in their voices transcended throughout the arena.

With the night almost coming to an end, the big 3 acts of the night had still yet to perform. The 9 members of Twice took on the stage performing their recent hits like “Dance The Night Away,” “Heatshaker,” and “Likey.” As the arena lit up with a sea of light sticks, fans mimicked the group’s fun choreography. While showcasing their amazing talents, it was also hard not to love them with their unique, bubbly personalties.

Ailee took on the stage, and revealed her insane stage presence. As everyone in the venue cheered and screamed, Ailee denominated and slayed every single minute. Demanding more cheers and screams, the Pop star had every single person on their feet during her set.

Ending the night, popular boy group Wanna One closed the night with their unique stage. With difficult, extraneous choreography, the boys captivated everyone in the audience. The group performed hits like “Light,” “Energetic,” and “Burn it Up.” Constantly interacting with the crowd, the 11 piece group won the hearts of many.

With every single minute filled with excitement, day one was a success.

Concert Day Two

Keeping up with the excitement from the first night, night two was just as action packed. Special guests Dreamcatcher started the evening with their unique sound. Labeled as “South Korea’s goth princesses,” the girl group set the bar high for the remainder of the night.

Taking full advantage of KCON, Imfact revealed their comeback with their unreleased “Nanana.” With an infectious beat, the crowd hyped up the members as they performed their new song. With Imfact leaving the stage, the sub unit groups of Seventeen began a surprise stage. As everyone seemed to lose their minds, the boys gave a small taste of what was yet to come.

With the energy staying constant, fans cheered as Pentagon took the stage to perform their most recent hit “Shine.” With a surprisingly short set of three songs, fans were sadly begging for more as the boy group left.

Mid way into the night, the solo acts showcased their talents. Jun took on the stage with a crowd of backup dancers dressed up in black. Despite having several dancers on stage, Jun shined through with his bright red outfit. With impressive choreography and catchy songs, it become quite hard not to stan Jun.

Having already performed yesterday, Chung Ha came out to perform her latest hit “Love U.” Just as the day before, the whole venue erupted and trembled as everyone sang along with the pop star. The singer expressed her gratitude, and was blown away by the constant singing from the audience members. Chung Ha ended the night with her other hit “Roller Coaster.”

Slowing things down, Roy Kim wowed the crowd with his ballads. With just him and a guitar, the singer had everyone transfixed on him with his simple, yet beautiful stage.

Changing things up, girl group Fromis_9 had everyone dancing with their insanely cute performance. As the group went quickly from one song to another, the arena floor was filled with several fans recreating the group’s dance movements. With an infectious, bubbly mood from the group, it was hard to resist a smile as Fromis_9 performed.

With the night almost coming to an end, Nu’est W started their set with their most recent song “Dejavu.” The four members made sure to take full advantage of the big stage. With having each corner occupied, each member showcased their talents. With suave dance moments and clear vocals, the boy group won the hearts of many.

Finally making a performance as a whole group, Seventeen came out to finish the night. With loud cheers throughout their whole set, the thirteen members wowed everyone with their charisma. The boys constantly smiled and joked around with each other as they danced all over the stage. While constantly interacting with the crowd, each member somehow was able to have their shining moment despite being in such a huge group.

Just like day one, day two lived to everyone’s expectations.

KCON 2018 LA was able to bring so many artists creating the event of a lifetime. With constant action-packed moments, KCON will keep you on your feet. If you haven’t had the opportunity to attend KCON, it is highly recommended to attend. For you will experience several surprises, and have the chance to see all your favs perform throughout the span of a weekend.
