LIVE REVIEW: LUNAR VACATION // Atlanta, GA

Date:

Last Friday night, I caught Atlanta band Lunar Vacation with openers Why Not and Hall Johnson at the Drunken Unicorn. Lunar Vacation has seen a huge growth since they played a sold-out show opening for Calpurnia, another young band, last month. The show on Friday was crowded, with a mostly teenage audience hanging out inside and around the venue.

The first band to come on was Minneapolis trio Why Not. Their energetic, alternative sound got the crowd hyped. They played many songs off of their new album, “Spring Cleaning”, which was released in May of 2018. They’re currently on tour, so make sure to catch them in a city near you!

The next opener hailed from Dallas, Texas. Hall Johnson, an indie rock band, played a fun, polished set. The crowd danced to their hit song “City Lights”, which boasts over 145,000 plays on Spotify. Hall Johnson is also on a national tour, so keep a lookout for them!

Finally, Lunar Vacation came on. The crowd, already excited from the first two acts, seemed to have a blast. Towards the end of the set, everyone heard the chirpy guitar intro to “Anna”, the band’s debut single, the whole energy in the crowd changed. Everyone knew every word and the audience was louder than lead singer Grace Repawsky during the chorus of the song.

Overall, the show was so much fun! All three bands have a bright future ahead of them, and I’d highly suggest seeing all three live.
