Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to catch Khalid on night two of the Atlanta stop of his “American Teen” Tour. As I entered this new and unfamiliar venue, I could feel the audience teeming with excitement and anticipation as they awaited the start of the set.
After beginning his set, it was clear that he had no intention to disappoint. His soulful rhythms and organic lyrics resonated throughout the sold out theater. The attention to detail, within the lighting alone, was captivating as well as mesmerizing to those familiar and unfamiliar with his work. No doubt, that many hours went into the creation of the atmosphere that Khalid skillfully created within the well-known Atlanta, “Tabby” (The Tabernacle).
Throughout the night, Khalid’s mellow rhymes and integrated rhythms kept the audience dancing and singing along to his most popular songs including “Location” and my personal favorites “8TEEN”, “Coaster” and “Another Sad Love Song”. Even from the highest balcony, the engagement between performer and audience was electrifying and genuine. Taking moments to actually speak with the audience prior to certain songs made the connections real and deserving of the appreciation of all in attendance. Special guests for the night included Russ and 6lack.
If you have the opportunity to catch Khalid before he heads over-seas to continue his tour, you will most certainly not be disappointed!
